Cpl. Jeremy Paul Bouffard (1986-2007)
 
Jeremy P. Bouffard was in the United States Army and was killed in a helicopter crash in Iraq on August 22, 2007. He was a graduate of Gateway Regional High School Class of 2004. I was honored to go to school with him.

MIDDLEFIELD -- Cpl. Jeremy Paul Bouffard, 21, of Town Hill Road, stationed at Schofield Barracks, Wahiawa, Hawaii, died Aug. 22 in Kirkuk, Iraq.

Born in Chester on Jan. 8, 1986, son of Stephen and Paula Woodburn Bouffard, he grew up in Middlefield and attended local schools. He was a 2004 graduate of Gateway Regional High School, where he was a member of the cross country and wrestling teams.

Cpl. Bouffard completed basic training at Fort Benning, Ga., and graduated from infantry and airborne school. He was a member of the 2-35 HHC Reconnaissance Scouts Platoon, 25th Infantry Division, "Tropical Lightning," based in Hawaii. Among other awards, he received the Bronze Star and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.

He attended Pioneer Valley Assembly of God Church, where he was a member of the worship team.

He was married to the former Mandy Burgess, formerly of Huntington.

Besides his wife and parents, of Middlefield, he leaves a son, Caleb Matthew Bouffard of Middlefield; three sisters, Maegan Davis of Northampton, Molly Bouffard of Great Barrington and Therese Bouffard of Middlefield; his maternal grandparents, Douglas and Catherine Woodburn of Brewster; and his paternal grandmother, Theresa Bouffard of Princeton.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Cpl. Jeremy Paul Bouffard, who died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, will be tomorrow, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m. at Bethany Assembly of God Church, 580 Main St., Agawam. Burial will follow in Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. Calling hours will be today at FIRTION-ADAMS FUNERAL SERVICE, 76 Broad St., Westfield, from 4 to 8 p.m. Donations in memory of Jeremy may be made to Jeremy Bouffard Memorial Fund for the Benefit of Caleb Bouffard, in care of Citizens Bank, Branch 245, 672 Memorial Drive, Chicopee, MA 01020. He also leaves his mother-in-law, Mary Caron of Chester; his father-in-law, Mark Burgess of Fairhaven; many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends, including Caleb's godfather, Matthew Anderson of Chester.
